How do you define progress ? What an interesting facinating time for observing human behaviour. Reality TV shows presented a wonderful opportunity for social scientists to expand their understanding on human behaviour. How humans interact within each other. How they pitt their will and desire to get what they want or how they dectect the deception from others.
Its very entertaining for couch psychologists too! Or just ordinary bemused humans, mildly paying attention to the oddity of a reality TV show. why bother whats the point? What will be unravelled what can be predicted what will it all lead to? Fame for the winners of the show and insights for science! The new frontier of discovery, how the human ticks in an artificial setting. A social construct far far away from the natural laws of the jungle!
Can you detect cynicism in this description so far ? Mildly critical without an actual point being made or an accusation? Critical for the human being distracted. Forced to create a circus for amusement and to claim there is a scientific discovery. All that has been discovered and revealed is the ability to manipulate and deceive. There is no science or rationale explanation to explain why humans do what from performing in front of a camera.
A psychologist would probably yield more insights from humans by watching classic films produced from 1950s through to the 1990’s. After this period humans knew all they were ever going to know about the human psyche! Motivation, intention and manipulation and dare it be suggested no lessons have been learnt about the catastophic errors humans make that could prevent pain, misery and suffering!
